Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

One of the fundamental concepts of cognitive behavioral therapy is that our thoughts affect our feelings and actions, and therefore if we change our thoughts, then our feelings and actions will change as well. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy often focuses on specific problems and behaviors such as a fear of heights or anxiety attacks.

What can you expect?

Your cognitive behavioral therapist will help you to deal with a specific problem or issue and develop new ways of thinking about that problem, or specific behaviors for dealing with that issue. For example, if you have a fear of heights, your cognitive behavioral therapist might first ask you to imagine standing on a tall building. Then, they might ask you to slowly expose yourself to more and more heights while simultaneously changing the way you think of heights and how you behave while you are around them.
